Upon arrival at Colombo International Airport, you will be greeted by an airport representative and your designated guide from Beyond Yatra. After completing the arrival formalities, you will be escorted to your air-conditioned vehicle for a comfortable drive to Bentota. Since your flight lands in the afternoon or evening, you will head straight to your hotel. Upon arrival, check in and take some time to relax and unwind after your journey. After enjoying a hearty breakfast at the hotel, begin your day with a visit to the Kosgoda Sea Turtle Conservation Project (KSTCP). Established in 1988 by Dudley Perera, this inspiring initiative is dedicated to monitoring local sea turtle activity and conserving their nesting sites. The project plays a vital role in raising awareness about the importance of protecting these endangered creatures before it’s too late.

One of the highlights of the project is its hatchery, where rescued eggs are carefully nurtured in a safe environment, away from predators. Once hatched, the baby turtles are released into the ocean at night, giving them a better chance of survival. Some hatchlings are kept for a short period under a ‘head starting’ program to ensure greater protection before their release. Every egg, nest, and turtle plays a crucial role in preserving the survival of the species, making this visit both educational and heartwarming.

Later, proceed to Balapitiya for a scenic Madu River Boat Safari. Glide along the calm waters of the river, surrounded by lush mangrove forests and dotted with tiny islets. Along the journey, you will witness timeless village life, spot locals cultivating cinnamon, and even visit a centuries-old riverside temple. Keep an eye out for traditional fishing methods, coir rope making demonstrations, and the rich biodiversity of the area, including over 46 species of birds, vibrant butterflies, and blooming water lilies.

After breakfast at the hotel, check out and proceed towards Colombo, Sri Lanka’s bustling capital city. On arrival, enjoy a panoramic Colombo City Tour, offering a delightful blend of colonial heritage and modern urban life.

Drive through the busy commercial quarters and the charming residential areas of Cinnamon Gardens, before visiting Fort, the former British administrative center and military garrison. Continue to Sea Street, the historic Goldsmith’s quarter in the heart of Pettah, and wander through the lively Bazaar area, where you will also find a Hindu temple adorned with intricate stone carvings. Another highlight is the Dutch Church of Wolvendaal, a colonial landmark dating back to 1749.

The tour also includes a visit to the BMICH (Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall), a cultural and political landmark, and the Independence Square, a national monument steeped in history. You will also see the impressive replica of the Avukana Buddha Statue.
